Homosassa, Florida - A unique part of the world where you can find pristine waters, laid back lifestyle, great fishing, monkeys and more! This little slice of paradise is situated in the southern region of Citrus County on Florida’s Nature Coast. Imagine living on the water and being able to hop in your boat and getting to abundant scallop grounds in minutes, or walking out your back door to play a round of golf!
Here you really can have it all…enjoy the best of Stone Crab Season, fishing, golfing, shopping, kayaking, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, swimming, nature trails and more.
Take a drive and in less than an hour you can be at the Tampa Airport, or in just a couple of hours you could be relaxing on the beaches of St. Augustine, partying in Daytona, or riding roller coasters in Orlando!
At the Homosassa Wildlife Park, take a leisurely walk around and check out the Florida native bears, deer, alligators, panthers, flamingos, otters, and the incredible “Underwater Fish Bowl” to see the fish and manatees at play. Don’t forget to stop by and say hi to Lucifer (aka “Lu“), the resident Hippo!
Although he is not native to Florida, he received an honorary citizenship by declaration of the late Florida Governor Lawton Chiles so he could stay and play with us…just be sure to beware of the “Splatter Zone”!
Although there are several manatees who roam the Homosassa waters year round, from October to March there are several herds of migrating West Indian Manatees who come to visit.
Take a swim in the spring fed rivers and canals and come face to face with these passive and peaceful creatures. There are several local guided tours and fishing captains who would love to show you around the rivers.
Have we mentioned the numerous dining opportunities Homosassa offers? On a Sunday afternoon, head down to MacRae’s to listen to live music on the water and enjoy a some wings and ice cold beer. Or head over to the Yardarm Lounge and Riverside Crabhouse for a pot of steamed blue crabs and entertain yourself watching “Monkey Island”.
And don’t forget to check out The Freezer for the best peel and eat shrimp you’ll ever have! Those are just a few of the many amazing restaurants in the area. Don’t take our word for it, see for yourself!
